Abstract:
Presentation will be focused on the magnetic behavior of HoCo2 compound under hydrostatic pressure. The HoCo2 compound belongs to a group of RECo2 (RE = rare-earth element) which crystalized in Laves cubic phase type MgCu2. The RECo2 compounds were previously studied mostly due to presence of two types of magnetism - the localized RE magnetic moment and the Co moment originating in the splitting of the Co 3d subbands. Below Currie temperature are both magnetic sublattice (RE, Co) ferromagnetic and antiparallel to each other for RE = (Gd..Tm). Several years ago, Co magnetic moment was experimentally observed above TC in ErCo2. Above TC Co magnetic moments form magnetic clusters coupled antiparallel to the nearest RE magnetic moments in the paramagnetic state. This new configuration was called parimagnetic configuration. The characteristic temperature of parimagnetic configuration is Tf (observed in the AC magnetic susceptibility data as a tiny anomaly). Above Tf the Co magnetization returns to the same direction as Er magnetic moment. The parimagnetic configuration in recent years appear as a general property of RECo2 series (RE = (Gd..Tm)). The present and pressure evolution of parimagnetic configuration in HoCo2 will be presented. Further in the presentation will be shown results from muon spin rotation spectroscopy experiment.
