Abstract:
Magnetism in RECo2 compounds has been subject of studies already in the second half of last century. However, in recent years these materials are becoming interesting again because of new magnetic state - called “parimagnetism” recently discovered in RCo2 ferrimagnets (RE = Gd,..., Tm}) in the paramagnetic range, characterized by so called flipping temperature Tf. The parimagnetism is explained like a short-range anti-parallel coupling between magnetization of Co clusters and rare‑earth magnetic moments. An interesting compound is TmCo2, which comes from its position at the end of this RECo2 series. There are few discrepancies in the literature concerning ordering temperatures TC and magnetic states of the cobalt sublattice. Moreover, it exhibits almost no pressure dependence of characteristic temperatures (TC and Tf) . To clarify our results obtained on the polycrystaline sample, we are on the way to grow good quality single‑crystal.
