Abstract:
If in 3d systems the strongest magnetic interaction is the exchange interaction in the case of Uranium compounds the situation is more complex. Here the strong spin-orbit coupling enhances the magnetic anisotropy and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction making relative strength of various magnetic interactions system-dependent. In this talk I will discuss how different effective magnetic interactions between atomic moments appear in the first-principles calculations and can be extracted from calculated energies of various magnetic states. Then I consider examples of systems with principally different hierarchy of interactions and discuss the physical consequences of this difference.
