Abstract:
UTX (T- transition metal, X- p metal) compounds are well studied group due to their interesting physical properties. They can be divided into two groups based on the structure-type they crystallize in – orthorhombic TiNiSi and hexagonal ZrNiAl. Most known compounds from TiNiSi group are UCoGe and URhGe, which are ferromagnetic superconductors. Many compounds (UCoAl, URhAl, UCoGa) from ZrNiAl group exhibit full or part of phase diagram described as discontinuous phase diagram for ferromagnets by BKV theory. As many compounds from ZrNiAl group are ferromagnets, this makes this group an interesting playground to investigate changes in the discontinuous phase diagram with changing magnetic properties while keeping the same crystal structure.
One of the compounds in ZrNiAl family is URhGa, reported to have Tc = 41 K on polycrystalline sample. URhGa is isoelectronic in comparison to UCoGa, and has a quite a few similar properties to URhAl which makes it an interesting candidate for investigation.
We prepared single crystal of URhGa to investigate its physical properties at ambient and hydrostatic pressure. We present data from magnetic, electric transport and heat capacity measurement at ambient and hydrostatic pressure. We compare our obtained data with URhAl and UCoGa and discuss the origin of similarities and differences in physical properties and their possible effect on phase diagram.
